I think it's interesting the last few games seem to have "gangster/societal underbelly" themes for lack of a better word. AoCF was basically Jo'on and Shion hustling money, 17 showed off Hell's Yakuza and their gang wars, 17.5 relates to the discovery and monopolization(?, Kanako's in it so presumably) of oil and the main theme of 18 seems to revolve around casinos and marketing.

Maybe it's just me but the overall themes lately really do feel remarkably modern.
