Sariel's is based on one of the final bosses of the game "Tournament of the Gods II" by AliceSoft. In an interview, ZUN has stated that he played the game a lot when he was in high school. Also Sariel's sigil is a direct lift of the Shin Megami Tensei logo, only slightly edited and compressed.

Sariel is a Jewish angel you silly secondary. Reminder that PC-98 Touhou is NOT themed after Abrahamic religion. ZUN just happens to be a huge SMT fan and likes to reference a lot from those games. Reminder that stars of david and crosses are popular motifs in Japanese media because they look cool and symbolize magic, not because of their connection to religion. Reminder that Sariel's design is taken from a boss enemy in AliceSoft's 1991 game 闘神都市II (Tournament of the Gods II). Reminder that the magic circle around Sariel is just a slightly edited version of the old SMT logo.
