I'm a freelance translator/editor, and so far practically every contact with outsourcers was through e-mail. Only about four of them have used Skype to contact me at some point, though many of them include their Skype username in the signature. And only two of them have ever called me. That probably owes to the fact I'm mainly looking for global clients due to generally low rates at the local market, and international calls cost too much.

Intra-company communications might be done via Skype, though.
