Babymetal hasn't been played on either of those, at least not in North America

But to answer your silly question, yes I do, and people discover music scenes through usually the most mainstream bands of that scene.

Someone who is into EDM probably first heard of Basement Jaxx or Deadmau5 or something. Someone who is into punk probably first heard of The Clash or Blink 182. Someone who is into metal probably first heard of Marilyn Manson or Slipknot, etc.

As I'm typing this now I realise that this is dating me as someone who is in their late 20s, so feel free to replace those bands with Skrillex and whatever.

My point is, Babymetal will undoubetly be people first metal band or at least their first Japanese metal band, and from there they discover less-popular bands. That's what a gateway band is.
