>Gou could've worked if Satoko were obsessed with her actual driving obsession, her brother/finding a replacement for him. I.e. obsessed with monopolizing Keiichi and Satoshi, not Rika; and if Rika kept her original obsession with Satoko from the VN. Instead they flipped Rika being obsessed with Satoko to Satoko being obsessed with Rika for no good reason.
That's not a big issue, though. Gou really should've built up towards it more instead of starting Satokowashi with Satoko already clinging completely to Rika, but even in the original, it's already hinted that Satoko depends on Rika much more than she'd like to admit, even if Rika doesn't feel all that comfortable with that position. It would be more than enough to serve as a starting point for Rika to take Satoshi's old place eventually, especially since Satoshi never recovers and Keiichi never takes on the Nii-nii role outside of Tatarigoroshi worlds.

She never truly got over Satoshi, which is a key point in both Tatarigoroshi and Minagoroshi, and Rika recognizes that Satoko is effectively substituting others for that role, though she doesn't think she can actually take on that burden.
In Minagoroshi, Satoko eventually realizes that she went about things all wrong and that she's nowhere near as independent as she wanted herself to be, but that entire arc was auau'd from existence, so it makes sense that Satoko never overcame that problem in post-Matsuri worlds, with the issue only being exasperated due to becoming a looper.
