Slowpoke here. Finished Harukuru and Natsukumo in one big summer binge. Loved the hell out of them, they were both wild rides that had enough heart in them to make me care about more than just "what crazy twist will they think of next".

I felt like Harukuru was a touch better, despite its obvious lack of budget (it desperately needed some more CGs for certain events/revelations); it had enough crazy shit happening to keep me hooked until I cared about the characters and a fantastic ending that warmed the cockles of my heart. A bit slow paced in the first route, though, and that unending deluge of porn at the start is enough to turn off a lot of people. Still worth it. Never expected them to go as far out there as they ended up going.

Natsukumo was a little weaker in the ending department but more than made up for everything by just being fucking funny. Sure it's entirely sex jokes but as someone who was once a horny teenager I can confirm that sex jokes are indeed a thing that happens a lot. Bro character was a total bro and all the relationships with the girls managed to be surprisingly fleshed out and touching. Except Himeka, she was a loli that peed a lot and there was little else to her character so that route was a bit of a drag. Also felt like they were trying a little too hard to jam crazy shit happening in everywhere, but sometimes it really worked so that's not a real complaint.

Either way I enjoyed the hell out of both of those and I'm really looking forward to Fall/Winter.

Any more with that sort of huge genre shift to them that are worth a look? Obviously it's more of an impact when you don't know there even is a genre shift but in those cases even knowing about it doesn't fully prepare you.
