My impression has always been that KC doesn't intend the "corruption" aspect of his setting to be taken all that seriously. Back in his first major communication with English fans he basically said the term "corruption" is only even used for the sake of the fetish associations of the term.

Basically he likes transformations and the altering of sensibilities, freeing of inhibition and such, but he doesn't want it to be tragic or anything like that.
