The funny thing is the technical skills like rendering aren't too bad but the end result is God awful.

As for why they don't see its shit? Artists can get tunnel visioned hard and get stuff way out of place, so something will look decent on its own but look horrible when you look at it as a whole.
It's an easy fix to flip the canvas as it has the same effect as looking at a non mirrored image of yourself
