Other people hate them too. They've just come to realize that there's not much that can be done because the mods have decided that the idol threads are cool, or something, and that derailing them is bannable - but derailing any other thread here is perfectly acceptable. Pay attention to idol threads (besides MM, they've been here since day 1, and have basically been grandfathered in) and you'll see the sages.
