She's a bit of an enigma. In the PC98 Era she was arguably the second most important character in the series, having just as many appearances as Marisa, but come Windows she almost entirely vanishes with only one or two vague allusions to her existence. I think that element of mystery, along with the implications she has for Marisa's character, has put her in the perfect position to gain a cult following. It also helps that she genuinely has strong playable outings and an engaging personality with a fun dynamic with Reimu. Also secondary memefags find it funny I guess.

Marisa finally decided to take you to meet her teacher that she's been telling you about at the Hakurei Shrine lately, this 'Mima' figure. She was really nice and mature! She remarked about how Marisa had been telling her so much about you, she was excited to meet a friend of her student. You spent quite a while burning daytime away hanging out with Marisa and Mima and it was fun, you just found it a bit funny how Mima couldn't seem to take her eyes off of you throughout the visit... and to be honest, it was a little bit strange how every time you would offer to do even something as simple as get the door for them, Mima would frequently comment about how much of a 'gentleman' you were. Not that you didn't like that, it's just that she put a strange emphasis on how you were so 'young' and 'full of energy'! Marisa didn't seem to think there was anything off about it...

But! You're not going to let that make you think Mima is odd or anything, you just think maybe she's a really old spirit and acts old timey because that's how she goes through life! She's undeniably a sweet spirit when you really get to know her. Maybe she just wants you to feel confident in yourself, she basically treats Marisa the same way too anyhow! Though, when it got late and you had to leave to go to bed, Mima did tell you to stay safe and warned you to watch out for "ghosts", because they "liked to haunt at this time of night". You wonder why she would tell you something like that when she's pretty much a big old ghost herself...

She couldn't have meant anything bad by it now...
