“Not your fault”

A sudden, and slightly groggy, voice that interrupted her spiral of self-loathing came from a mess of blonde hair unbound by the hat that usually kept the unruly beast under wraps. The care she gave her hair coming easily undone in the ensuing chaos of the day. Marisa had woken up from her slumber at some point, and was content to listen in to the conversation till now, “Tewi-san is right…” She sighed as she scratched the back of her head with a sight, “I’ve been dealing with Yukari-san for years you know. Being an active incident resolver will land you that kind of situation and all ze…”

Marisa stood up and padded over to the front of Hana, her socked feet padded across the wood flooring with barely a sound. Hana looked straight in front of her staring into her unusually grave and golden eyes, “Hana, you can’t let her continue to control you like this. Maybe she wouldn’t have been so bad a long time ago, back when would she still smile normally and use her crazy plans to help others like she did for ‘Suzu way back when ze.”

Placing her hands on Hana’s shoulders she leaned forward slightly, “She’s changed and she isn’t going to just magically get better daze. You can’t fix a women like her, no matter what she’s told you and what her motives are she’s just used you… and violated you…”

A sour expression spread across the petite witch’s eyes, disgust mixed with fury filled them before she forced them down till only a shadow of that remained, “Hana, I remember what it was like being alone and without anyone to care for you. I can’t say I understand everything that happened to you perfectly, but I know that the way she’s messing with your head isn’t right! You aren’t a toy or some pet to be made to walk on eggshells to please someone!”

Once again… once again, Hana’s eyes filled with tears, she didn’t want to hear this. An empty and indescribable feeling filled her body, starting from the pit of belly and spreading. It felt cold, like a vital lifeline was being severed, that memory of feeling wrongness as mama walked her to the statue reasserted herself, “I know it hurts ze, but what would Anon say about how she treated you! He tried so hard to protect you, you know as well as I do that he could never stand to see you like this!”

Tears started falling freely from Hana’s face as she sniffed and failed to hold back the dam that overflowed again. Hana felt pathetic as Marisa laid out the facts, plain and simple in front of her. Hana didn’t want to believe it all but her father’s eyes when Mama had them bond as a family, Mama’s disregard of her when the first thing came up, the guilt and dread she felt all the time at the idea of them finding out the truth… It wasn’t right what Yukari did, even if she did have her reasons and even if… even if Yukari did have love for her…

Mima nodded in the background, but her acceptance didn’t mean that everyone was same page. Sanae spoke up, with a bit of force in her voice, “Marisa-san that’s enough! Hana get’s it, you don’t need to rub it in her face!”

Marisa looked up at Sanae before leaning back, looking into Hana’s crying face, and grumbling out an apology. Strangely it was Yuuka that came to her defense, “Marisa is right, it is what needs to be said”

A second spell card was in Marisa’s hand before Hana knew it, this one decorated with thunder clouds raining hearts of some kind and with another shout Marisa exclaimed loudly, “Love storm, Starlight Typhoon!”

Hana almost scoffed at this as another sphere of magical energy burst forth from Marisa, but it didn’t stop at hovering around her casually. It expanded past Hana a good distance; Hana was confused at first as she tried to recall her mentor’s moves she read in that grimoire Marisa gave her long ago.

Finally, and just in time, she remembered. Those large herding stars flew in from ‘behind’ Hana as smaller stars shot out from Marisa’s little furnace in front of her. It was intense, even for Hana as the bullets flew out at her causing some near misses. She only had eyes on one side of her head after all! Still, she knew the smaller bullets would follow her with those tracking spells as certainly as the larger ones would.

She used the squeezed reality to maneuver off to the side suddenly letting the bullets follow her before she ducked back to her original position. She even took the ‘long’ way around by dipping and curving towards her mentor. She couldn’t help but tease her again, firing off a singular paper seal as she shouted, “Are you asleep Marisa-sensei!?”

The crisscrossing streams of large herding bullets were absurdly easy to dodge when she could just thread around and to the sides of them. The smaller stars were a bit more annoying but nothing she couldn’t handle. If she wanted too, she could probably pelt Marisa with fantasy seals, even needles if she was a youkai. It was something that was beyond her just earlier today and it felt great.

The sphere had shrunk as she dipped and dodged, making the spell lose most of its effectiveness as the lasers themselves were easy enough to dodge with her new perspective on things and the spell faded soon after.

Hana was left hovering in front of Marisa after she maneuvered ‘away’ from her. With a grin on her face she proclaimed, “How was that Marisa-sensei, you think I’m good enough yet?!”

Marisa sighed as she nodded, “Its true, you did win and those movements are hard to keep track of. You really are a lot better than you were, and as your mentor I’m proud of your progress ze!”

Hana grinned widely; it was exactly what she wanted. Recognition as being strong, maybe she could even- Marisa cut her off, “However, as your mentor I also can’t let you get too big for your bloomers ze. That’s why… I’m going to teach you thoroughly what happens when you pick a fight against someone with more experience than you da ze!”

Huh? Did she piss off Marisa? Uh oh…
