The concept "Waifu" is just something /a/ has for newfaggots to "act" like they belong or proves that they are oldfags on /a/.

Then there's someone that takes it to the extreme.
And now everyone wants to be that extreme because it's hip/trendy or they just want to be engraved on /a/'s mark forever.

The most obvious example is the Christmas/Valentine photos.

/a/non takes a picture of their waifu of the season, stamps it up on their monitor, followed by some cheap shit like Dr Pepper/budget chocolate infront of it, snaps a photo with their shitty smartphone while proclaiming "THIS IS HOW MUCH I DEDICATE TO MY WAIFU" to whatever /a/ attention whore board there is to justify their love and shitty existance.

Summary/tl;dr: Waifu concept is a "I want to fit in" on /a/.
