From a shootan' game standpoint, it's pretty average. Touhou doesn't even make my list of top ten shoot-em-ups.

What I respect most about the series is the whole Japanese sense of community, and how the fans embrace it since it's an indie game. Thus, thousands of fanart and tons of doujinshi and music remixes.

If Touhou were a commercial product, then barely any fan content would exist.
