Why is Symphonic Rain so frustrating?

This is the only visual novel that has ever made me angry before. Even on the easiest difficult I can't seem to get down the music mini game, just watching those little gold icons drain away is so infuriating.

Some people always mention on Symphonic Rain threads that they can't find the in game version of character songs and only have the Rainbow CD versions.

I should mention that they are full versions, not like the ones of the usual BGM rip.
