Out of the 20 million (?) or so Japanese hit by the flood/quake, less than 1% are reported dead or missing, so it's very likely this waifu's husband made it out in time. Even though it pains me to suggest this, but perhaps the patriotic brother was forced to abandon one of his waifus in the rush to get out. His waifu would have wanted that, and he has many other women to protect. He is probably, at this moment, frantically searching for his waifu -- could you imagine what must have been running through his head if this image got back to him?
