You realize that the point of smart phones is all the stuff it does OTHER than the phone, right? My "phone" is also an mp3 player, a GPS, and quick access to anything on the internet (restaurant reviews, bank accounts, streaming audio, and web comics most relevant). And that's just the tip of the iceberg. With the thousands of free apps out there, my phone also has been used as a level when hanging pictures, a flashlight (using the camera LEDs, oh yeah, my phone is also a camera/camcorder with the ability to instantly upload content online), it can listen to a song on the radio and tell me what it is, its google maps, its fucking star chart when I want it to be. And ALL of this comes in one device. Smart phones are amazing.

Having said that, this comes at the cost of having constant access to all this information. I find it harder to learn because I feel like I don't need to know the information itself, I just need to know where I can quickly find the information. If I ever lost my phone I would probably be shit out of luck.

Back on the subject of Japanese phones, I LOVE the Sharp Aquos 007sh. It's a large flip phone, but the screen swivels around it can also be a touch screen phone. It's running Android 2.3 and has a 16MP camera. I want one, but I doubt it's ever coming stateside, and even if it does it will be so out of date by the time it gets here that it probably won't be worth getting. It looks pretty sweet in black.

I also forgot to mention that smart phone provides instant access to school, work, and personal email.
