I think left looks a lot better and I have not played YU-NO nor did I grow up with that style of art so it's not nostalgia. The one on the right is just bland. I think the average quality of art is much higher nowadays than it was then (pic related), but YU-NO was high-quality for its time and the remake is low-quality for these times, so the difference is striking.
