Anyone seriously considering going to Gensokyo ought to resolve some means of self protection before going. Firearms obviously won't help against anything strong, but it's weaker yokai who tend to attack randomly in the first place right? So if you can ward off even a few of them you might be able to get your foot in the door.
Personally, if I were to ever think of going, it'd be with the primary goal of getting stronger somehow, then carving out some place to live a fulfilling life. Whether it be by magic or spiritual enlightenment, Gensokyo has those kinds of things in spades.
I just don't wanna get chomped as soon as I enter, or stuck living the boring life in the human village, or booted out/killed cause I disturbed the peace with my guns blazing entrance...it's difficult.
