As promised a couple of threads ago when I gave my unsolicited thoughts on Yoigoshi-hen I am back to give more musings. This time I will be discussing Tokihogushi-hen. I must admit I was very disappointed by the abrubt ending. It came as soon as I was starting to get into the story. I think this arc really picked up in the second half whereas the first half was fairly uninteresting. I like Tomoe as a protagonist, she works well as a straight man for other characters to play off of. I enjoyed seeing Rena in 1982 (what little of her we actually did see) and learning more about the incident in Ibaraki and how it impacted the people Rena attacked. There are several unanswered questions that I am interested in getting a resolution to. The only arc left where I think those answers will happen is Miotsukushi (Ura), so at a bare minimum this arc fueled my interest in another arc coming down the road. I presume both murders were caused by "Tokyo", though from Tomoe's perspective it makes sense that she'd think Rena was responsible. Speaking of Tomoe's perspective
I suspect she has some sort of mental illness (maybe Hinamizawa Syndrome?) based on the medical examination TIP and the way she saw Rena present at the carbombing in Kakuichi even though it made no sense for Rena to be there. Lastly, the Hanyuu scene also confused me and made it clear I don't know how Hanyuu's powers work exactly, I was absolutely expecting Tomoe to listen to Hanyuu and return to Hinamizawa immediately in this arc, but I guess they are saving that Ura. Anyway thats the end of my rambling, I might post about Minagoroshi when I am done or I might just post that copy pasta about killing someone in gruesome ways and plug Takano's name in. Blogpost owari.
