I wonder if the design would be as iconic if they went with this. My guess is no though, twintails made it much easier to make fan versions, the tie/sailor uniform could be adapted more easily into different designs, the tattoo helped make it more obvious when people was drawing Miku and no exposed armpits. She does seem more elegant though.
