I've worked with people who didn't have a concrete idea of what they wanted out of a story other than something as vague as general feeling and very loose guidelines, and I'm certain they've gotten their money's worth.

Sorry for the late response. I'm not entirely sure what you're thinking of since I don't know if I wrote it already or you're looking for something different. With how you describe it, Hearts and Minds and A treasure greater than gold might be what you're after. One follows a simple succubus and another a dragon, not monsters in great positions of leadership. If it's not what you meant, let me know.
