Imagine, if you will, you're a villager with seven younger sisters and an overbearing mother.

One day, the shrine miko from the Moriya temple notices your one escape from your family in architectural work. Real carpentry, landscaping, and all that jazz. She invites you on a guided tour of her shrine, being the brother of seven little girls and being less dense then ironwood you know exactly why, but you go along with it anyway. Who knows? Maybe moving to an isolated chapel high on a hill was just what you need.
Things start out well when you arrive, Sanae is actually very learned about construction, pointing out foundational elements of the temple and is relaxing to be around, you start to actually think being around women isn't so horrible, until 'she' shows up. Sanae nervously introduces her as Suwako and immediately she bends over and arches her back like your sisters do when they're trying to be annoying. Sticking out her hand she asks: 'how do you do?' You'll bow and push the irritation down like sour fruit and Sanae pushes you along, relieved.
But it just won't stop. One minute she's pawing at your face from behind, the next she's jumping on your back demanding to be carried, one time she even asks if you're trying to smuggle anything illicit on shrine grounds and starts poking inside your robe. You endure since Sanae seems so nice and you pick up that this might just be a sort of hazing ritual until 'the incident'.
Just before you're about to leave Sanae offers you tea and Suwako sits in your lap, which she demanded you let her do, but that isn't the real catalyst oh no, if only it were just that. Because the door slides open and the flesh-and-blood Yasaka Kanako, god of this shrine, bursts in and boldly, but with just a bit of trepidation will say 'My oh my! Sanae has brought such a handsome man to come see us!'. She'll saunter over to you and start molesting you like a nosy grandmother 'And such strong arms! Are you a foreman perhaps? Oh, you're an architect as well? The full package I see!'. You endure this, with all the tolerance you've built up your entire life until she utters the foulest words you could imagine 'How I show you to my inner sanctum and you see if I'm up to code?'.
You look into Sanae's eyes, her begging, pleading expression that you just weather this last test. In response, you'll push off the snake god, lift up the frog god by her armpits and put her aside, turn to Sanae and say 'I can't handle this' and catch the last ropeway cart off the mountain.

Maybe there was a test and you failed, but your life was infinitely better for it. You'll wonder if the Hakurei Miko is looking for a partner. She seems to be the reserved type and the Hakurei shrine seems like it could use some work.
