I spent almost all my bonus points on damage related skills related to the specialty I want my character or pets to focus on. From day 1 for Kai I was just spending bonus points from leveling on my martial arts. I would spend these points immediately on level up and did so until my MA was at 500 and at which point I would switch to spending on tactics until that was 500. I alternated between the two until both were capped.

It was similar for my martial arts pets Saya and Akeno. The principle was still the same for my archer pet Mina but the skills were Bow and Marksman. For my witch Mai I had to level two hand, tactics, polearm, and casting. Naturally she was harder to level up with bonus points as she had 4 skill dumps as opposed to the 2 of my other pets. I first leveled up the skills that contributed the most to her damage which were tactics and casting. After getting those to 1000 I then worked on upgrading two hand and polearm. Currently all my pets sit at around 1000 skill level for their builds. Only my character has capped various skills.

If I had to do it all over again though, after I got my pets to a decent level in attack skills, I would start shoving bonus points into negotiation. Instead of having separate pets dedicated to managing my stores, the very pets that form my attack team and adventure with me would also be my shopkeepers. I would just stick them in my shop slightly before midnight and my character went to sleep. They'll sell all my stuff while I sleep and I'll just retrieve my pets in the morning if I want to adventure with them or just park them there if I want to focus on my character.

Would free up pet slots in the ally list and come with a variety of perks. Since they're adventuring with me I can level up negotiation easily through AP to bonus points and since they're also the ones I'm feeding herbs their charisma will naturally be ballooning as a side effect of trying to raise their other attributes. I can kinda do all that now with my pets but I don't have the heart to fire any of my current dedicated shopkeepers. They also have accumulated a nice amount of shop exp and are on their way to achieving shop feats.
