You underestimate Sanae's power. Even her simple recovery charms in 12.3 heal you up a bit, and youkai are best fought off with items of spiritual significance to begin with. She propably sat all day to imbue the talisman with strong youkai-repelling magic just to protect the one she loves. A perfect present to display her affection.
