I'm sure there's an interesting anthropological study to be made on Touhou's resemblance to a polytheistic religion not only in content, but also in practice. For example, much of the Ancient Greek hymns were derivative works of Homer's plays that could be enjoyed by those who had never experienced the source material, making them not too dissimilar from today's doujin works.

She's an ancient nature goddess that can create life by clapping hands and doesn't even have a real body. Probably doesn't have a gender either since she's just a spirit made of pure faith.

Also primordial gods create life by doing the most mundane shit, like Izanagi did with amaterasu (and her dynasty by extention) by simply having a bath after his wife died like a bitch.

So the origin of sanae's ancestors could be everything from blowing the breath of life into clay dolls, to a ritualistic orgy with hypnotized village men wearing snake masks.

It's not like her desires would matter, considering the traditions of the shinto pantheon that rules the society where she used to live. The higher gods would have forced her sooner or later. It's all about political marriages in shinto. Except amaterasu, I think. She got away with not marrying, but only because she's the top dog. Or she was married but then kicked him out.

It's more likely that Eirin has been married at some point, than not.
