Okay so here is the master track as-is. If anyone could take the time to point out what I'm doing wrong (probably a lot) or give me advice on how to mix better...

I'm not proficient enough to make a purely acoustic piece, sorry! I've been trying to make a TUMENECO-clone acoustic song for ages but I just can't make it work...

I'm using Guitar Pro 6. It's technically not a VST I guess, but it's close enough! Shaping the sound takes forever there, but what's worse is the lead guitar clips on its own, it's not because of the post-production mix. It's got some really nasty unpredictable behaviors, and I can't get rid of the clip without sacrificing the tone.

>if you don't play any instruments
I lied. I've been teaching myself guitar, but my technique is so bad. And I started a few years ago. That doesn't count as being able to play! And theory is more fun than playing anyway!

I play drums relatively well, but everyone know it's not a real music instrument lol.

>Any idea what might make it more jpop-ish?
I'm no j-pop expert, but j-pop is a pretty big umbrella term, so it depends what kind of sound you're aiming for. Most j-pop is inspired by Western pop music a lot, though.

It's mostly the instrument choice and melody progression. Those instruments don't see a lot of use in modern j-pop. This is the biggest thing, since they give the song an oriental feel instead.

You might want a more decidedly Major progression to get a more poppy feel as well. Also cute grill vocals. You always need cute grill, or cute boy vocals for j-pop. This part can't be helped.
