I agree. ZUN seems to like them, he made three tengu. Plus they seem relatively involved in matters in Gensokyo (like blocking construction of a road to Moriya shrine and perhaps using said shrine to their benefits).

With the traditional depiction, and so much red around the youkai attacking humans, there is no actual gore or massacre depicted.

Maybe the axes and swords are made of foam, and this is how traditional youkai gain fear and infamy in Gensokyo? While the little girls play with shining lights and patterns.

Youkai confirmed for playing Oni(tag) with humans.

I hope we get to see more no-named Touhous that show up briefly like the kappa in WaHH. Adds more life to Gensokyo.

I love OP's artist.

Another one of his works was recently translated (on voile) focusing on Marisa & Byakuren which if pretty good, though not as good as this one. A third one of his works is also on the front page on voile, though no one has translated it yet. So check those out.

One I'd recommend, although I wouldn't say it is realistic, is Stories of Sakuya. I'm mainly recommending it if you're looking for Touhous (in this case, Meiling) who are more competent than normally portrayed in fanworks. A competent Meiling is amazing. Plus the art is great.
