If Meiling were to get thrown into the mix, I think having her go with Flandre would be a better choice. Meiling and Patchouli don't seem to get along very well.

It could start out with Flandre wanting to go out and play/get involved in whatever the incident is and Meiling, being unable to stop her, decides to go with to at least apologize to all the people that cross her path.

Except its stated that she does manage to keep intruders (other than Marisa) out. Also that she frequently gets people challenging her to formal duels, which Remilia enjoys watching.

And then there's the ending to Meiling's Soku scenario, where Sakuya brings her inside because she's worried she'll get heatstroke sleeping outside.

It just, I don't know, says everything about (what I like to think of) their relationship with one another.

Except unless I'm mistaken, there isn't really anything canon that states she's an incompetent goof. Maybe a bit air-headed and doesn't take her job all that seriously at times, but not to the extent fanon likes to portray.

Easily one of my favorite "Meiling as Flandre's caretaker" pics.

There are two things that I wish were explored more in doujins:

1) Meiling being Flandre's caretaker like is often played with in one-off pictures. And

2) The period before the SDM came to Gensokyo, after Meiling is hired, but before Sakuya shows up. I like to imagine Meiling taking on a sort of Brock Sampson role, doing a mix of housekeeping, bodyguarding, the occasional chasing off an angry group of humans, and dealing with Vampire hunters.
