>these days AKB is mainstream with a diverse fan base from little girls to grandpas.

Then riddle me this : why does their career go to shit once it's found out they have a boyfriend ? It implies that the segments of the fanbase important to their career are people who care about that stuff and they'll have to please that kind of sickos.

>Her face is rather emotionless
I've heard this meme again and again, like how her eyes can't convey emotions. I think I first heard it in that crossdressing contest but anyway, she looks just fine if she doesn't force herself to smile. The girls in AKB48 usually look terribly fake in photo shoots. But they can look just fine in real situations. Mayuyu isn't emotionless.

>harsh
Oh I'm not worried about them having to work hard. I'm worried about them having to develop strange personas and weird ideas about human interactions when they have to please obsessive perverts every day. I saw some videos where each girl says something like happy birthday or 'daisuki' to an imaginary audience and that just feels so wrong. It's also like how actors in US reality shows tend to become VERY aggressive and dramatic over time in real life.
