I think they are 4channers, rather than people copying 4chan. It's just too bizarre of a thing to form on its own like that.
One of the reasons that this style of discourse is so successful though, is because it's disarming and subversive, and it's a style thats been practiced on 4chan daily for years, played out time and time again with laughinggirls.jpg and all of the other familiar jabs.

If they make eloquent and good points in an argument, their opponent was just defeated by this walking trope of an anime-loving social reject - how embarrassing!
If they're beaten in an argument - Well, they're anime-watching losers, what did you expect?

It sort of brings a touch of cheekiness and trolling to everything - if you don't take them seriously, they might get blindsided, if you do take them seriously, you might become a joke.
