I didn't see this posted in any of the threads, and I don't know if anyone cares, but you don't really have to save only at the designated save points when using the english patch if you have microsoft ime installed (if you don't, get out of /jp/).
When you want to save at a point other than one of the safe save points (such as in a battle on hell mode against one of the many cheapass monsters like the scorpion or iron maiden), change the ime input to ｆｕｌｌ　ｗｉｄｔｈ　ｒｏｍａｊｉ and type in anything you want. Make sure you get rid of all the text that is in the save box to begin with. The setting for full width romaji should be the third from the top.
