I guess I'm a Sega otaku?
like I've scoured for all kind of stories and shit from developers and people who've worked for them, I've spent a bunch of time reading Sega's official dev manuals, that sort of thing

like, if anyone wants to know why so many Saturn games didn't have lighting at all, the Saturn doesn't perform any lighting calculations in hardware, it's all software driven (Sega provided libraries, but that was a little later)
not to mention that if you were using VDP2 palettes (read: any 256 color quad) to draw your quads instead of direct 15-bit RGB colors or with 16-color RGB lookup tables, doing "color calculation" (read: any kind of color blending at all, like gouraud shading, transparency, or just tinting the color of the whole quad without changing the palette) will break, and without color calculation, you don't get lighting
IIRC (don't quote me on this, I need to actually go test it), it technically works, but since it works on the framebuffer data as if it were RGB even though it's a palette index, it fucks up.

oh, and even if you're using RGB mode, transparency color calculation doesn't get applied to shit drawn by VDP2 anyway (but it fucks up on 4 point quads and IIRC it might fuck up on 2 point scaled sprites as well, at least downscaled ones so it's avoided, and it's supposedly six times slower according to the VDP1 manual anyway)
transparency is a mess on the machine -- it's technically supported by all the graphics chips, but there's very few terribly nice ways to use it (Burning Rangers' method is "draw everything literally twice, bits that aren't transparent are black on that pass, transfer the transparency pass to VDP2 and additively blend that over the final image" method is reliable, but slow, and you can't stack transparent objects)
VDP2 is great with transparency, but you only get a few layers. Things on VDP1 that use VDP2 for transparency clobber other quads behind them, so you see the backgrounds blended through (one of the characters in Guardian Heroes exhibits this, can't remember her name right now).

man, as much as I like the VDP2 chip, Sega really fucked up completely with actually integrating it into things
there's a damn good reason the hardware 50% mesh mode exists (dumb shit: it's not faster, despite drawing half as much of a given quad)

pannen's videos are magic
like, that video he did on floating point numbers is probably the best possible explanation I've seen

I used to be a r/theredpill /pol/ shitter but 2hu made me realize that women actually deserve respect and they're pretty cool. Thanks /jp/ for changing my life!

Your drawing's not bad, my dude.
Everyone sketches and then goes over the rough lines, don't worry.

You can try doing the motions for your lines with your pen just above the surface then bring it down when you think you'll get it where you want
Or do excercises to build line confidence. They usually drawing countless straight lines and such
