>The imposter theory
One of these things is not like the other; someone on the island has been murdered and replaced by Beatrice. This could have happened either before October 4 or during it, with the murder happening before the first twilight. This would also mean that Beatrice dies in character as an imposter, so for this theory we have to pick Beatrice out each time. It might be that different characters are impersonated each time before the first twilight. To prove this, I’m going to have to do a shitton of research, so right now it’s pretty thin on the ground.

>The split-personality theory
This one’s partially because this is one of my favourite tropes, partially because of something the witch EVA did. When she was using the Red truths like a machine gun, she mentioned Eva as something separate from herself in the Red. But she didn’t mention herself, or her child self which eventually became a witch. So I guess the question is; if someone had a split personality like Eva, but they were hiding it, would the Red show it? Not unless Battler directly asked (being the fucking idiot he is, he doesn’t). I actually believe at some point Battler does ask something like “Someone else with a split personality did it, like Eva!”, but Beatrice doesn’t perfectly answer him with something like “No-one else on Rokkejima has a split personality”, she says just dismisses that by physically eliminating it.
If we had to put a candidate up for a split personality, I’m putting up Rosa. I’m essentially saying that she’s hiding Beatrice inside her. My reasoning for this begins in 1967- she’s the only one of the Ushiroyma to see Beatrice other then Kinzo and to meet…whoever the fuck that was. It may have just been her as a little girl imaging things, or maybe she did actually kill the girl Kinzo was imprisoning. Then, wracked with guilt, created ‘Breatrice’. This actually has some more going for it, Rosa sometimes flies into a rage which seems pretty out of character/out of nowhere, and Maria calls her the ‘Bad witch’. Maybe the ‘Good’ Witch Beatrice is in there too, and comes out whenever they are at the Ushiroyma conference, when Rosa remembers Beatrice? That and Rosa must subconsciously know a shitton about the occult just from dealing with Maria all day. So she would be able to do drawings in Hebrew and the like. Also significant is that it’s Maria who recognises all of it, because she’s seen it before. It could be that Rosa just copies what she remembers from dealing with Maria’s magic.
But the Split-personality theory could work with any of the others characters (minus Battler), if my theory with the Red thing is true. Hell, maybe the Ushiroyma family’s blood has some defect that causes it? Or perhaps Kinzo is the king of being a shitty father, and he accidently damaged his children so badly more than one have a Split-personality?
