Well, MDD Reina, the Volks standard model MDD, is around that price so you could pick her up right now.

With that budget, you can easily get a body from Volks, a painted head from Y!JA, and some clothing later on. Buying in pieces will help your budget. It's the limited models on the aftermarket that cost a lot.

The first dolls you linked to are customs, so if you want something like that you'll need to commission an artist to paint a blank head. As the other anon mentioned, DD forums is a good place to look for artists.

Kinoko would be a good first doll. Anything $200 or less is a fair "intro-to-dollies" price. Lots of people start with small Azones or Pullips. The Kinoko dolls might tough to get though. They are just about to be released and are in high-demand.

If you're positive you want a MDD, I would say just spend your money on that. You're going to need to save cash for outfits and wigs anyway.
