That would make sense for most voicebanks but not really Miku. The character Miku is much more profitable than the synth software itself (that is a niche product only used by a fraction of the fanbase, and some of those even pirate it), She has concerts, games, licensed songs, all kinds of merch from cheap to expensive, it's used in multiple collabs and commercials. Plus it already gets an extra part of the software earnings thanks to piapro studio anyway. That's probably why Yamaha doesn't really care that much in burning bridges, it's not getting all that Miku money at all.

Now Crypton had to pay at least 3-4 years of a full developer team (and will keep paying because of the continued support) without actually selling anything (and taking a risk that the software will not get anywhere) when they could have released one version of each of their voicebanks on Vocaloid 5 and had gotten the money 2 years ago for a lot less effort.
