i just have a JAV-specific vault on Obsidian though (it's a note taking program). you can do some pretty neat stuff like links to other notes within the same vault etc, so i basically use mine like a catalog of my collection. everything is in markdown too so very lightweight albeit quite a manual process. i like tinkering though so i don't mind

wow looks great! the helper app is very impressive, would you ever share this? shame the obsidianbro isn't around that often but i think he'd find this interesting. i remember him saying he just does everything manually and wasn't really automating anything besides how templates work

it's just a lightweight markdown notetaking program after all. what further customisations were you thinking of?
maybe your idea of just doing things on a local site would work better if you've got some ambitious plans for how everything should work + it looks like you have the technical know-how to make it happen. i don't so i'll settle with using Obsidian as a basic catalog for my collection

Using this information, I was able to make my own set-up to my specifications (pic related) and I don't even have any background in coding. Granted, mine is a lot simpler than his since I just use it as a catalog for reference rather than some kinda multimedia portal with click-through functionality but as you can see from what Obsidianbro has done, you can implement lots of cool stuff. Hopefully he's still around to answer your questions but since he's not always here, I might be able to help you with the simpler stuff or at least point you in the right direction

Thanks for your tips last time, I've been having a lot of fun with my setup. Yours looks a lot more streamlined than before and the booru style tags on the side are nice, can you point me to any resources for setting up something similar? Are they a plugin or just some code magic?
That tag combination search is also very slick and I'm also curious about the little icons on your index page. What are those for?

he doesn't hang out here too often but as his unofficial informal disciple, i may be able to answer some of your questions if you had any. my set-up (pic rel) looks quite different to his with different quirks and functionalities to suit our own needs but the underlying principles are the same
