I salute you brother. I had a similar experience. It was a loli for me. Upon seeing a screenshot of her in her VN, an otherworldly impetus compelled me to read her VN. Before then I simply did Anki like a mindless slave while occasionally studying from a grammar book - constantly telling myself I wasn't ready to read what I wanted to read. I eventually tried reading a moege once but it just didn't work out for me.
But when I read her VN, I finished it within a week.
Upon finishing that loli's game I realized that there was a treasure trove of lolige waiting to be read, a whole realm of enjoyment and excitement, it was right there at my fingertips... all I needed to do was read it. No matter how difficult it may be or how many runes stand in my way, I would read the lolige and experience the world of my dreams, immersing myself with feelings no moege could ever hope to achieve.
I have read quite a bit of lolige since then and my Japanese has improved dramatically. I didn't think I had it in me, but she showed me a light I never thought I would see.
When I saw that screenshot that day, my life was changed forever.
