When I started reading Miburo, I was really, really worried they'd tone down the shinsengumi girls now that they're heroines and not antagonists, and I'm really impressed that they didn't.
They do give them lots of cute moments and quirky comedy bits, but also lean hard into the fact that Hijirin is an absolutely ruthless killer who has done some unambiguously evil shit, and she gets some great character moments and development surrounding it.
