Yeah, that's more the concept I was getting at. Most games tend to have 3+ characters that are part of a 'faction' and then a handful of characters that are simply innocent bystanders (usually low stage bosses that are cannon fodder.)
Since they are usually weak, and usually unaffiliated, why don't they ever join with existing factions for protection/prestige/power, or even just friendship?
Instead they tend to get generally lumped into the X game faction.
