too much work to smoothen it. i mean, sure, you could just use some sort of despeckle/soften/etc thing to soften the colors and then use magic wand with edge extension to delete background, but without some manual work put into it it'll look pretty poorly anyway.

you'd at least have to fix up the dark colored pixels so after the smoothing you can't see the screwed up color spots anymore.
