The original Nurarihyon is a Youkai that appeared in the Edo period's Youkai picture scrolls, but wasn't given a description beyond its appearance and name. An unidentified and mysterious entity.
They've been given the trait of entering people's homes without permission and hanging around as if they owned the place, but that was something attributed to them later.
Many Youkai look close to humans, and the original Nurarihyon as well takes the form of an old man with an elongated head.
The Encyclopedia world's version looks close to a human as well, but to show that they're different from humans, they became "Enchantresses clad in the dark of night".
