I wonder if Satoko and Rika would tell the truth to the police once Rena is found dead in the bathroom. Would they come out and say that they were the last ones to see her that evening? Would they make up a different story about their encounter with Rena to protect her dignity as a human being? Or would they remain silent about having met Rena so they don't have to say what happened?

If they didn't say anything, the police wouldn't have a motive for the suicide and her poor dad would probably blame himself for going out with a woman Rena hated. But if they explained the truth, Rena's reputation would be destroyed and the memories everyone has of her would be tainted by the knowledge of what happened. The pathetic reason she killed herself. The way she shamefully lost control of her sexual urges. Not only her friends, but also the police and the media. They would all know about the truth if Rika and Satoko talked.

The whole point of Miyo's plan was for she and her grandfather to leave something behind in this world even after death. The memories you leave behind in the minds of people are what keep you alive. It's a very important theme in Higurashi.

For Rena to leave behind such a humiliating reputation... For Rena's friends to remember her like that... For all of their memories of the usual Rena to be tainted by her shameful final actions... That is too sad. From the day of her birth to the day of her death, Rena didn't achieve anything worthwhile. All she left behind was a record of her pathetic existence. Everytime her friends remember Rena, they will cringe and try to forget about her because it's so embarrassing. That is all her life amounted to.
