Ohh, I hadn't thought of that before, the stakes showing off Ange's talent as a writer. A good bit of Ange's dialogue can be interpreted as her speaking through the stakes yeah, It's similair to how when Shion talks about Satoshi in Meakashi, she's really just talking about herself and her own life, using him as a scapegoat. They're there as a coping mechanism for her to cling onto her sanity, which is how Maria saw magic as well, imagination. Formed out of her desperate desire for love, which is why Mammon becomes a particularly close friend of hers I believe, any lonely girl like Ange would wish for a best friend to confide in. EP4 is my favourite episode, not just because it focuses on Ange's journey, but because there are so many really touching moments between Ange, Maria and the stakes, and their interactions are incredibly important to not just Umineko but WTC as a whole. Mammons conversation with Ange on the boat to Rokkenjima was especially touching to me first time I read it.
