Aoko isn't Rin but better. Rin is discount Aoko. Aoko was the original. Rin was a clone of her.

Also shifting demographics towards mobile too. Didn't help that the budget was pretty large for a small return.

The traditional novel part is a plus overall. Feels like his KnK writing. It's a superior story and Nasu really put the time into it. You can tell he learned and tried to repeat his success from Tsuki->FSN by reducing the number of main girls too.

It's a couple of things including demographics shifting away from PC to mobile, higher budget VN to tell a more traditional story that doesn't pander to otaku, and the cost to content ratio.

Mayoho would have great as 3 part light novel series.
