Foxes start life with 1 tail and gain an extra tail once every hundred years. So at 100 years old they would have 2, and at 800 would have 9. At this point, assuming Ran follows traditional folklore, she will eventually start losing tails until she has 4 and will be considered a "Tenko" (heaven) type of fox and will then be one step away from divinity.

Being caught out and losing to Chen would probably be a bit worse off then most considering. Other youkai would probably just eat you or kill you depending on their nature, but I've seen the kind of things cats do with prey they've incapacitated.

That's an interesting take, but think I prefer the traditional version of adult Chen.

Unlike kitsune, don't think there is any limit to how many times nekomata can split tails, so Chen might end up being the last majordomo of the Yakumo household.
