Try having Kenshin lose fights to gain more points. I was in a similar boat to you although not as bad point wise, I needed 20 more points but there was no one left around to defeat and Hojo + Takeda were blitzing my entire eastern lines taking half of Japan. After plowing west towards Mouri and Gon hoping I could get a point from them that one Shimazu brother showed up at my doorstep in a random event and I got all the points I needed.

I think big factor here is that Touhou managed to really catch the NicoNico and Pixiv wave just at the right time skyrocketing its popularity.

It's like a horde of zombies that managed to start off the infection in a highly populated city and it just keeps growing and growing.
