I read it for the first time two weeks ago. It's certainly worth it for the experience of seeing what the *actual* story is without corporate regulations dictating content. It also makes getting into Melty Blood (reACT, Cadenza, Actress Again) a much more integrated experience. There is also Kagetsu Tohya to go on. I (personally) don't think it's worth letting the remake "supplant" the original experience. It should be supplementary. If you lack the discipline for a non voiced VN, at least read the manga adaptation that Nasu wanks.
