Going through genki and I'm unsure if I'm understanding a part of Japanese properly due to lack of explanations.
It says that ~じ means time and it also says that なん and なに both mean what.
So since なんじ means 'what time' then does that mean that なん~ would be the way you would ask what~?
So could you use なんとり to ask 'what bird' is this or something similar?
I assume it's a general word joining you can use but no explanation is given for this so I wanted to confirm it.
