Here's a sketch of a kanji deck I'm planning (let's pretend that 生 is a 食).

In "Production", the goal is to write the kanji from memory, no secret.
In "Recalling", the goal is to recall the kanji and its readings.

Both "Recalling 1" and "Recalling 2" have problems, though:

R1 - Simply saying "there are X readings, list them all" is not a very good method. If I can recall 19/20 readings of 生, failing a card would be frustrating, and scavenging my brain for all readings will probably slowly kill me, besides probably not reflecting a complete list of readings.

R2 - I feel like other kanji and okurigana give away the answer too easily, making my brain not focus on the kanji being reviewed. For instance, most people here would struggle to tell what kanji 薇 is, but upon seeing the word 薔薇, the reading becomes pretty obvious.

I have almost 4000 kanji and 15k+ cards in my vocab deck, so I'm not a beginner. My goal is to learn to write by hand and also fill the gaps in kanji readings/meanings I'm unfamiliar with.
