That ending also fits better with the theme of the route since Rea's route was all about Mercurius' "stage" breaking little by little shown by characters like Rusalka/Wilhelm/Valeria/Wolfang all getting over their curse and culminating with Ren who was supposed to be the main character of the play but who decide to get off the stage.
The new ending is nice fanservice but I just can't see it as canon.
